Nerdy Wordy Sex Thoughts

March 16, 2012

The language we speak and the words we possess mold the way we think and speak. Frequently, our language  reflects aspects of our culture. This is especially true in regards to language surrounding sex.

The word ‘have’ is particularly troubling to me. It is passive and it is possessive. Neither trait is appealing in the bedroom. So then why is that so many phrases used to discuss sex include this word. Why do we “have” sex? Why is it that we “have” an orgasm? Are those two ‘haves’ being passive or possessive? Shouldn’t we experience sex and feel orgasms. Perhaps if we spoke in a more active manner we would be more free to actually experience and feel.
